Mom gives teenage son handgun to play with, son unintentionally shoots sister

38-year-old Cynthia Ann Ward, of Collierville, Tennessee, gave her 17-year-old son a 9mm Luger handgun to "play with". She also wanted him to make sure the magazine was fully loaded for the next time she carried the gun, loaded and hidden, in public.
The boy took the magazine out of the gun and then began joking with his sister, pointing the gun at her. Not realizing there was still a bullet in the chamber, the boy pulled the trigger and shot his 14-year-old sister in the upper back.
The girl was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis where she remains in serious condition. The mother was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.

Umm, please correct your statements get them right before you post. I am very close with that family and the mother was never charged with anything& second the girl is 15 and he was never given the gun to 'play with' really?! Get your facts right before you blog or post about it.

@ anonymous: I followed the link here. You might want to take up your complaint with the news outlet that reported it, not the author of this blog, who only repeated the article's language.

If you know the mother and shooter, would you have a reason, then, why she would give the boy a loaded gun like that?

Anonymous may have a good point. It's my observation that "accidents" like this usually go unpunished.

What mother give a 17 yr. old a gun to "play" with or for any reason? This so called mother needs her head examined! It's parents like her that are a disgrace! Stupid, just plain stupid! And to the person that said she wasn't arrested, her mug shot is online under Cindy Ward and her real name is Cynthia Ward. So, yes, she got arrested and hopefully justice will prevail. Her daughter could be dead due to her lack of parenting and poor judgement! Punish her to the fullest extent of the law!
